Gumstix is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redwood City, California, founded in 2003. This private company specializes in computer hardware, developing and manufacturing small system boards comparable in size to a stick of gum. When first fully functional in 2003, its boards utilized ARM architecture system on a chip (SoC) and an operating system based on the Linux 2.6 kernel. Gumstix offers an innovative online tool called Geppetto, which enables users to design their own custom boards. Furthermore, in August 2013, the company launched a crowd-funding service to help groups of users share the setup costs for manufacturing custom designs.
