Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) is a Taiwanese multinational semiconductor contract manufacturing and design company, founded on February 21, 1987, in the Industrial Technology Research Institute, Hsinchu, Taiwan. Headquartered in Hsinchu Science Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, TSMC is the world's largest dedicated independent "pure-play" semiconductor foundry and Taiwan's largest company. It reported a revenue of US$ 88.27 billion in 2024 and is a significant contributor to Taiwan's economy, with integrated circuit exports amounting to $184 billion in 2022, nearly 25 percent of Taiwan's GDP. TSMC constitutes about 30 percent of the Taiwan Stock Exchange's main index and was ranked 44th in the Forbes Global 2000 in 2023. Although the government of Taiwan is the largest individual shareholder, the majority of TSMC is owned by foreign investors. The company is publicly traded.
