Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (WBA) is an American multinational holding company headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois. It was formed on December 31, 2014, following Walgreens' acquisition of the remaining 55% stake in Alliance Boots, which it did not already own, for $4.9 billion in cash and 144.3 million common shares valued at $10.7 billion. Walgreens had initially purchased 45% of Alliance Boots in August 2012 for $4.0 billion and 83.4 million common shares, with an option to acquire the rest within three years. Upon completion of these transactions, Walgreens became a subsidiary of the newly created company. Operating in the retail and pharmaceuticals industry, Walgreens Boots Alliance reported a revenue of US$ 147.7 billion in 2024. The company holds a significant market position, being ranked #18 on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue.
